The Imagined Village

Thank you [info]lupercal we owe you a pint :). Myself and [info]erestania have just been to see The Imagined Village and my what a bloody excellent show it was. I wasn't sure it would work at first, the first number seemed at little bit of a mess of different musicians and musical styles. But that was just them warming up, they just got better and better with each song and they had almost the whole crowd out of their seats and dancing in the aisles by the encore :).

There was some serious talent there with Billy Bragg, Eliza Carthy, Martin Carthy, Sheila Chandra, Simon Emmerson, Andy Gangadeen, Francis Hylton, Johnny Kalsi, Barney Morse Brown, Sheema Mukherjee, Chris Wood and The Young Coppers plus Benjamin Zephaniah and John Copper on the big screen (looking a little like Holly from Red Dwarf at times). Eliza Carthy was the real find for me, she bounced around the stage like a mad thing playing the fiddle amazingly and Johnny Kalsi's drumming when he got to be centre stage had me grinning like a loon (I want his coat btw). Local lads and lasses The Young Coppers are a bunch we'll need to track down for a live show.

If you can get a ticket at any of the remaining shows do it, it's well worth it.

Apparently [info]erestania and I are quite 'folky' really, well I suppose the first step is admitting you have a problem :). Note to self: go to more live gigs, you enjoy them.

isn't it fab. I drove for 4 hours on Friday night to see it. And am contemplating doing the same again on Tuesday.

Gah - that sounds amazing! I *heart* Eliza Carthy - have got some of her early folk/alterna-folk crossover stuff somewhere that I should dig out.

BTW, really really sorry about not making it on Friday - got home and just fell asleep :( Catch you both soon?

Glad you both enjoyed it! I want to kidnap Johnny Kalsi and Eliza Carthy and have them perform for me and me alone!
